Composer, Producer, Keyboardist, and Co-Founder of Game Music Connect

John Broomhall is the composer for such iconic games as Transport Tycoon and X-COM, and recently contributed music to key Xbox One launch title, Forza Motorsport 5, recorded at George Lucas’s Skywalker Sound. His prolific career encompasses contributions to many other celebrated productions including Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix series, MechWarrior 3, B17 Flying Fortress 1 & 2, Superman, American Idol/Pop Idol, Football Manager, Wallace & Gromit, New International Track & Field, Heavenly Sword, Guitar Hero DLC, and Forza 4 (Jeremy Clarkson speech recording). He has worked for such prestigious clients as Microsoft and Sony PlayStation.

A multi-faceted independent music and audio creative with many years’ experience in both the music and videogames industries, he has held a number of senior in-house and outsourced management roles (including European Head Of Audio and Game Development Manager for MicroProse/Hasbro/Infogrames), and has dozens of published titles to his credit as composer/producer, audio director/consultant, sound effects designer and voice director.

Broomhall has chaired many BAFTA Audio Awards and sat on the BAFTA Videogames Committee as a co-opted member for the maximum allowable years.

He regularly speaks/lectures about game audio at seminars, conferences and universities. He organises and chairs the annual Develop Conference Audio Track, writes a monthly column for well-known industry magazine, Develop, is a contributor to pro-audio publications Audio Media and Audio Technology (Australia), and sits on the Editorial Board of academic journal The New Soundtrack.

Broomhall has served on Skillset’s Game Forum and advised on the National Occupational Standards for both Interactive Media and Sound. In 2009 he was honored with a Recognition Award by the Game Audio Network Guild of America. In 2011, he was invited to give the keynote address at the Audio Engineering Society’s conference in London and in 2013, co-founded Game Music Connect, co-curating and hosting its first two events at London’s South Bank.

He is also an accomplished session keyboard player, producer and songwriter published by Allied Songwriters/Notting Hill Music.

Currently providing original music, sound and dialogue content, production management and consultancy for a wide range of developers, publishers and other consulting companies, he is always interested to hear about new projects and creative collaborations, and is available to work worldwide on a freelance or contract basis.
