In this interview, we talk with Adam Levenson and Ollie Glatzer of Somatone Interactive. Adam is the COO, and Ollie is a Sr. Producer. Both are musicians, composers, and game audio veterans. Somatone, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is a worldwide leader in sound design, original music composition, voice production, and audio implementation. They support 15 full-time team members and several independent contractors and have credits to more than 1,000 games, including many top-sellers, across all genres. They work with AAA publishers and indie developers, in PC, console, mobile, casino, VR and more.
As this is “Cultivating a Career” month at DMN, Adam and Ollie were generous in their advice on this subject and all other questions that I put to them, including:
- The musical backgrounds of Adam and Ollie.
- The History and current scope of Somatone and it’s projects and clients.
- “Cultivating a Career” – lots of great advice on demo reels, etc.
- Somatone’s in-house composers and, do they work at a central studio, or from their home studios?
- Do you record live music and if so, for which games?
- Casino games – what are the tricks to creating addictive music?
- What is the future of game audio? VR? Mobile? Indie developers?
and much much more!
Here is a quote about Adam from Charles Deenan on LinkedIn::
I would like to thank Richard Warp, a Producer at Somatone, for introducing us to them. Richard was one of our first Designing Music NOW Core team members and he is a frequent contributor on this site.
The interview is fast paced, funny, and full of great advice from both Adam and Ollie. We hope you enjoy it!

Somatone Interactive, Inc. was co-founded in 2003 by fellow Berklee College of Music graduates Nick Thomas and Kane Minkus, whose shared passions for music and video games fueled their vision to create a top-quality, one-stop audio production shop. This innovative pair initially worked on feature films, national ad campaigns and AAA games, eventually concentrating their creative energies on the burgeoning casual games sector of the industry. They gained an early foothold in this rapidly growing arena to become a leading force among casual game audio & sound design studios, eventually branching out across all genres, styles and technical requirements.
Today, Somatone has grown to include 15 full-time team members and several independent contractors. We hold credit to more than 1,000 games, including many top-sellers, across all genres. Because we have worked on a tremendous range of titles from nearly all major publishers and developers, as well as the indies, we have developed the expertise to make our clients’ projects sound great. With this track record, we are closely attuned to best practices and emerging trends in the industry.
Looking forward, we are working passionately to create more immersive and engrossing experiences through a variety of content and technology solutions in all forms of interactive media.
